<< As I understand it, the 10-G was to be a copy of Gigliotti's clarinet

The only problem with this, is that it was a Pre-R-13, large bore Buffet.
Whether that is true or not, the reality is that the 10-G's from the 60 and
70's had a larger central bore than the R-13. The original R-13 being
14.65 or thereabouts, and the 10-G being 14.85.
Now the enlargement of the bore of 14.85 causes one frustrating and
uncorrectable problem in those particular 10-G's: right hand shapness in
the low register; very sharp low "A", Bb, B and even C; virtually
impossible to play in tune with a piano, though prehaps good enough to
slide by the vagaries of orchestral pitch. >>

Tom the problem that you mentioned must have been corrected by the time I
bought my 10-G's. I do NOT encounter sharpness in the low register, the A,Bb,
B, and C are very stable, on the Bb and A. My real intonation problem it is
with trying to stay with an orchestra when they soar above 442. (Last night
the Trumpets hit high C's that my tuner thought were very flat C#'s). I do
have the sharpness problem in the altissimo A B and C, just like my Buffet,
especially A clarinet.

BTW...in case anyone thinks I am bashing Buffet, I want to say that I play a
WONDERFUL Buffet R-13 Eb clarinet and a Buffet bass. The bass I have had
altered several ways, but it has always been a womderful horn (and yes David
H. I did compare it to several vintage Selmers). Also, as I stated before, I
cannot seem to give up my old 1966 vintage R-13 Bb, although I would like to
try Abe's register key correction and a Chadash or Fobes barrel on it. Oh
well, maybe next Christmas.

Cheers everyone.......this is the kind of exchange that I believe does
everyone good.
