Noah A. Smith had requested suggestions for unaccompanied clarinet works
that, if I understand him correctly, are less technically demanding than
Stravinsky's Three Pieces and more on the order of Osborne's Rhapsody.

I'd like to suggest Gordon Jacob's Five Pieces, published by Oxford Univ.
Pr., 1973. The pieces consist of (1) Preamble, (2) Waltz, (3) Homage to
J.S.B., (4) Soliloquy, and (5) Scherzo and Trio. They are all relatively
easy and "fun" (as my son would say). I think that this work, along with
Jacob's other clarinet works, deserves to be better known.

Regards,
David Yee
