Opportunities for volunteer music-makers exist everywhere, I believe. I
use whoever I can con (-vince, that is) to play with my church choir and
in the pit of our community cantata. Our high school musical director
uses local adults to supplement the pit so kids can be on stage if they
want. Some companies/organizations put on benefit variety shows where
prominent locals perform to raise money for charity (Clinton on the sax?
make your own opportunities!) We have community bands and orchestras,
too. Towns are always looking for performers for their
festivals/carnivals, strolling musicians are used at many places from
craft shows to restaurants. Get in touch with the local musicians union.
They call fill-ins for all sorts of groups. I play with the local kids
just for fun (easy stuff, but we were playing!)
"Life without music is not." Make your life what YOU want!
