Ryan,

I'm curious - have you worked with a private teacher? The problems you
describe are not really reed related, although the Vandoren 3 will have a
thicker heart then the Rico 3. The problems you describe sound air
related and, possibly, embouchure related (and how much mouthpiece you
take in to your mouth).

Why did the store recommend this? What kind of mouthpiece and clarinet
are you playing on?

Good thoughts. It will lead to quicker development of some muscles, but
it could amplify other problems or bad habits if those are present. I
sure know what you mean about wanting to throw the horn out the window.
