Do you mean IGNAZ JOSEF PLEYEL (b. June 18, 1757, Ruppersthal, Austria--d.
Nov. 14, 1831, Paris, France)? He was a student of Haydn, and sounds like a
less gifted version of the same. He wrote many concertos and "symphonies
concertantes". I am familiar with a Clarinet Concerto in B-flat Major which
is typical late classical in style. I'm sure there are others.

I haven't been saying much since i joined this list, but mainly reading from
the sidelines. Just a few questions and comments, though
Have any of you ever played Igor Pleyel's Konzert fur Klarinette und
Orchester? If so, any advice? I am playing it with our college orchestra.
My private teacher has never heard of it, and neither have I. Any input to
it
would be wonderful!
Also, I am looking into purchasing a new clarinet for when I leave for
school
next year( I go to a community college right now). I have been thinking
about
it for awhile. I am leaning towards a Buffet R-13. Any suggestions? I know
that these types of questions get asked a lot on the list, but I hope none
of
you take offense to one more.
Finally, Martin P, could you let me know when your orchestra is performing
at
the University of Chicago? I have been studying Mahler's 5th in Theory
class
and would be VERY interested in hearing a live performance.

p.s. I feel the same pain as all of you who have to deal with misspelled
names...I go by Jeni, which is ALWAYS being spelled incorrectly, much less
pronounced incorrectly. :)
