Adventures in shopping for bass:
1193-2 confusion.

I called ahead to Montreal, requested
to try the latest version, described the changes.
The dealer called back to announce
the rep. for Canada sent the latest version
of the 1193-2 from the "Warehouse" so I could
try it.
I drove 6 hr. today expecting to buy it.

Same full length instrument as before, no C on the
bell, or vent hole, still on the body, etc.
Nice horn, but I had to make him adjust a
few screws so the pads would close! I had tried
another one of this model from Toronto anyway,
and it was better, may end up buying it.

Perhaps there just isn't a "new"- new one in Canada
to try, and they want to clear the old
stock on the Canadian market before
allowing new stuff into the general market here?
Just a guess, may explain the slightly
cheaper price on it. But after describing
specifically what I was looking for, was
somewhat disappointed not to be able to try it.

They said it was a 1193-2 and this only means
silver keys. Then explain how come their
literature says silver keys are standard
on the Prestige bass 1193?
I certainly hope it wasn't misrepresented
as the latest model for I went to allot of
trouble to go there. When a new model car
comes out usually the old model goes on sale
to clear stock, I assumed this is the case with
most things, perhaps not.

Perhaps the Canadian market is just to small
and not as informed. For example-- both the
Toronto and Montreal dealer think a Bb 65
barrel on an A clarinet makes no difference,
and shipped me Bb 65's for the A.
They don't carry a single A 65 barrel. I understand
the bore is different, and would prefer to judge
the difference this does or doesn't make myself.

Still shopping, and would love to try one that
incorporates improvements I've read about of this list.

. Thanks to all for your help
