I did and still do teach with the Collis books, using at least books 1,
2, and 3. By book 4, (which has excellent material) many of my students
are beyond the cute names -- so we move to different books. I am
impressed with Mr. Collis's choices of when to introduce tongueing and
other technical aspects of the horn. I especially appreciate the fact
that he has students playing tunes by the seond page so that we can work
on music as an expressive art right away.

I often supplement the Collis books with the "First Book of Practical
Studies" by Hovey for purely technical and rhythm workouts.

It's been great to read your postings, Mr. Ridenour.
