Regarding Buffet model 1193 bass clarinets and the Washington Music Center,

Be careful with Buffet model interpretations from this dealer. I have the
utmost respect for Chuck Levin and his Washington Music Center. (I've even
bought instruments and supplies from them myself.) But about a year ago,
when I was considering a bass clarinet purchase (I still haven't taken the
plunge), he showed me a new model 1180 and assured me that it was a
"professional" model.

I've played on a colleague's 1180 (bought at that same store), and it is
indeed a fine instrument. But Buffet markets the 1180 as a student model
bass clarinet. I don't think there was any intent to deceive me; I believe
he just didn't know that this excellent model 1180 bass clarinet is
considered a student instrument.
