Same situation I have-the other player isn't so careful with his
instrument so an otherwise fine bass clarinet is falling into disrepair.
And I wouldn't call the leaks charming. ;-) I hopefully will have it
fixed up before the performance or even better before the rehearsals
start. Now if anyone has some tips on finding leaky pads...we would try
the suction test but not until we've cleaned it out, and blowing air
with all fingers down and a cork in the bottom doesn't seem to work
since it pushes some of the pads up. Would a leak light work or does
the non-reflective characteristic of grenadilla make it less than perfect?

Also someone suggested to me that using a slightly harder reed or
synthetic reed for bass clarinet could help a little, but a slightly
softer one on alto sax might help too.

I'll have questions about the logistics of the pit orchestra and what
stands I should use while juggling.

I've got my work ahead of me to become proficient at bass and alto sax
by March 19.

Thanks again for the advice, and I hope no one walks out of the exit
music that I will practice so much, or else I will find a more club-like
use for the bass.
