As a teacher of beginning and very young students (still - if you can
believe a college prof. would still do this - I enjoy it!), I am lucky to
have kept up on my favorites and my least favorites.

I really like the Buffet and Yamaha plastic, bottom of the line
instruments. I really like the Yamaha mouthpieces that come with the
plastic horns (easy to reface, and most of them don't need to be). I
don't like the Buffet mouthpieces (sorry Francois - you and I have already
talked about this issue though!).

I don't enjoy the Vitos, but they are better than Artley and Armstrongs
(which seem to play identically - anyone know why????). The Artley
mouthpieces that used to come with the old Artleys were quite good. I
don't know about the new ones however.

I don't mind Bundy clarints - just that the keys tend to bend more easily,
the pitch is either amazingly good or amazingly bad, and the mouthpieces
are the best door stops I have ever used (if you put a notch in the tip).

Just my opinion based on non-blind studies/play tests and a bunch of young
students.
