I have two recordings of this work, the "world premier recording" on Koch
Schwann with Harold Wright and a recording on Spectrum done about 10 years
earlier (!) by Ramon Kireilis (IMHO, Kireilis has much better sound, Wright
took all the repeats). In the back of my mind is the thought that Georgina
Dobree may have also recorded the work for Chantry but I'm not positive of
this.

The Kireilis recording specifically refers to the quintet as Op. 15 in f#
minor (written in 1895) and notes that the original publisher was Breitkopf.
This is at least additional evidence that Op. 15 is the correct number. The
Wright recording refers to the "Quintet in A" from 1895 with no mention of the
opus number or publisher. In any case, both recordings are of the same
work. The probable explanation for the key signatures lies in the fact that
f# is the relative minor for A. Different publishers may have used different
designations.

There is a "Facsimile Edition" (whatever that is) by McGinnis & Marx at the
Washington University library that identifies the work as being in A (no opus
number or date). On the other hand, FWIW, the chord that ends the first
movement sounds like a minor chord to me. It appears to me that you pay your
money and take your choice. My vote is for f#.
