i recently purchased the BG Elastic Strap, and while only having used it
approx. two weeks, it seems very sturdy. i have lloked a the non-elastic model
which attached to the "metal dohiccus"and thought it to be a little too much
for my "feel".

sounds like SOME strap would help you, no matter which model you choose.
good luck.
