All of which reminds me - what is the composers intent for all the
"generic" tunes that radio and TV stations use (so that they don't
violate copyrights) as backgrounds for videos etc?

Beethoven's in the public domain - dead - but his music isn't decomposing
<]:o) So where does that put plagiarism?
Tell me about "To An Anacreon inHeaven", "God Save the King",
"Deutschland Uber Alles". The ability to make something different,
equal, wonderful or horrible out of a narrow "intent" (and that ain't
saying the intent is not a good one!) is a gift. I am glad many choose
to use it. Otherwise, I'd never have known some of these tunes. The end
doesn't always justify the means, but I think my sifter has fairly large
holes in it to allow these to come through! "Boy, aren't I the tolerant
one these days!" ;-)
