Hmm. What you say, Tony, makes sense when I read it. The
understanding I had in my mind after reading about such stuff was
different, but I may have understood wrong. I'll try to find time in
the next few weeks to look it up in our library and reread.

Can anyone with better equipment check the experiment I suggested
yesterday, with looking at the spectrum of a "bad" throat Bb? I see
an additional "inharmonic" peak just below 3xbase freq with my
set-up, but on playing with it it has appreciable dynamic only if my
clarinet is fairly close (to about 4') of the mike. Also, can
someone check the precise positions of the 3 first "harmonic" peaks
for this bad note? I can't really tell from my computer screen if
they are exactly harmonically related, or just "very close".

So, Ed, you may be right and I wrong, and people should take what I
wrote in response to Kevin's email 2 days ago with a grain of salt
until I recheck, as far as it pertains to inharmonicity in the
clarinet. My main point, I believe, still makes sense regardless if
we consider an instrument (wind or other) playing with piano.
