List,

Thanks for all the great ideas. I tried the flame under the key with the
pad in place (forgive my inept use of terminology, I've only been playing
'seriously' for about 2 weeks now :). I'm a mediocre guitar, drum, bass
player who was attracted to both the tone and 'linear simplicity' of the
instrument as I felt bogged down and burnt out on the guitar (too much
stuff going on all at once for a dishevelled mind like my own to sort out
successfully at this point in my life...I'm working 30 hours a work and am
a full time premed student). In addition, (besides probably the most
critical factor, the availability of a crappy plastic clarinet I had picked
up about 5 years ago) my love for 'classical' music and the incredible
desire to play the literature as it was intended (instead of constant
transposition and reworking for guitar to get a less than wonderful tone
anyhow) spurred my decision to take it on.

Back to my initial point. :) The flame trick worked beautifully!

Thanks again and best wishes to all,

Ryan.
