Of course it is a purer tone. Its lack of overtones is one reason the
tuner's sound is so annoying! It is much easier to hear the beats against
such a tone, though. Also, the pitch is stable, not wandering around like
another players's might. Piano is pretty hard to tune to because of the
richness in harmonics and decaying tone as the note is held. There is
nothing much you can do about drummers!
