I have the problem on clarinet in not knowing if I'm sharp or flat when
I'm already close (say 2 or 3 beats/sec). When I played bass and guitar
I would tune below & then up (and then yank on the sring to re-settle it).
That way I always knew which way I was approaching. I did the same thing
when singing a cappella in high school ( a little flat sounds a lot
better than a little sharp).

Are there any "tricks" to knowing which way to go on clarinet? My ears
don't seem to discriminate very well which way to move the note.
