These are generally called beats or beat frequencies. Its rate of pulsation
is equal to the difference in frequency between the note that you are
playing and the note the other person(s) are playing.

Its fairly easy to hear if there are two of you holding a long note. It
gets a little harder in an ensemble and/or if the music is quicker.
