Subject: register key tube
What effect does the amount of tube extending into to bore have?
What is the purpose of this tube other than to avoid water in the
underslung key?
Is the internal amount necessary to come to the center of the bore?
Does moving the tube outward (more exposed) out of the body change Bb or
12ths. Assuming the same amount of key opening is maintained.
I'm sure someone can save me lots of experimentation.
TIA

You will get an undertone if the length is too long, or too short inside
the bore.

underslung key?

To go to the next register. (UNDERSLUNG KEY???)

Is the internal amount necessary to come to the center of the bore?

There are general guidelines, but sometimes even the register tube that
comes with the instrument can give an undertone.

Does moving the tube outward (more exposed) out of the body change Bb or
12ths? (Assuming the same amount of key opening is maintained.)

Yes, clearer Bb, may or may not affect tuning (if it is proper length).

My suggestion, save the trouble, and time, and get a Galper tube if you are
having problems with the tube.
