Today I heard (on the radio), Stoltzman play the Mozart (and some
Benny Goodman tunes) with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. There was a
certain raggedness in his playing that truly surprised me - maybe because
it was a live performance - He's sounded cleaner on other recordings.
His tone was not consistent and seemed somewhat uncontrolled. Generally,
articulation was crisp. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it even though there was
no chocolate satin ;-( . It sounded "real". I don't have CD's or
tapes, I only hear on public radio so I can't play it over and over to
analyze or compare performances.

Everyone has better, and worse days. I heard a live broadcast of Drucker
playing a piece by Rossini with Orchestra that was technically sloppy, and
uneven! I couldn't believe that it was him playing. The moral is - it
happens, even "Mr. Technique" can have bad days.
