I recently had my favorite technician work on a student's
dog-of-an-R-13-A-clarinet. He shortened the tube by almost 4 mm. It freed
up the horn at least 50%. It also raised the altissimo and the throat
tones - but that was all to the good on this instrument, which was
ridiculously flat in the throat tones.
