I really like this recording of the clarinet concerto. I think that
Shifrin does a good job of expression. One thing I enjoy about his
playing is has dark sound. However, I would not say this is my favorite
recording of the Mozart concerto. I give that honor to Robert Marcellus.
To me Marcellus takes the piece further in expression and phrasing.
When learning this piece for a competition, I listened to both
recordings. Both were helpful and I used ideas from both. For example
Shifrin slurred where Marcellus tongued (I think the last cadenza is an
example of this- Marcellis tongued the arpeggios while Shifrin did not). I
elected to slur them since my tongue 9 times of 10 made them sound
uneven.

This is a really good cd and I recommend that most clarinetist
should have it in their collection.
