Speaking of making plastic horns sound better.
For some outdoor gigs I use a plastic Yamaha 26-11.
(Canada can get mighty cold for a Christmas parade.)

I always use a good quality wood barrel on this plastic horn
, with my usual setup, the wood barrel makes an
enormous difference, improving the sound.
