Dear Colleagues from Klarinet,
I have been outside the klarinet list for a rather long time in order to
finish my PhD thesis in music acoustics, mainly about reed woodwinds (oboe,
bassoon, saxophone & clarinet).
It is a great pleasure to announce that it is ready and its introductory
text is on the net :=20

(just click on the animated "fakir" oboist or on "The Thesis Introduction")

the dissertation title is:=20

FROM AIR TO MUSIC
Acoustical, Physiological and Perceptual Aspects of Reed Wind Instrument
Playing=20
and Vocal-Ventricular Fold Phonation

I want to thank very much the klarinet-list for the discussions that
originated Paper III (a and b), on the effect of pitch fall due to the
changes in the composition of pulmonary air during playing. Interestingly,
we had a very long thread on that in 1996 and it has been revived lately,
as I could see in the files.
YES, CO2 and O2 VARIATIONS AFFECTS PITCH !!!=20
For more details, look at the Included Papers- Abstracts section of the
thesis. I presented a paper in Edinburgh ISMA'97 about that, and the paper
is available at=20

I hope that you enjoy the thesis and any comments and criticism are very
welcome !

Best regards and a Happy New Year
