The tarogato is a wonderful instrument but has a very limited use. The
wide, wide bore and soprano-Saxophone sized mouthpiece, with large
fingerholes, make a very pleasant, chuckling sound, somewhere between
the soprano Sax and the English horn. It sounds very much like walnuts
taste. There is not much of an upper register, but the lower octave and
a half are very beautiful. I have four tarogatos, these being a
Stowasser, a Borka, and two no-names. All are playable or can be made
so; all but the Stowasser are available if anyone is looking.
