Subj: [kl] flat notes on A clarinet
Date: Sat, 19 Dec 1998 18:51:42 -0500

I am having a lot of trouble with my low e and f on my A clarinet. When
my clarinet is warmed up it is about 30 cents flat just on those two
notes when I am tuning to A@-----. The rest of it has just about perfect
intonation. I am using a 650 barrel which is the smallest one I have
heard of. I have put my B-flat clarinet bell on my A clarinet in order
to raise the pitch as well. I keep my throat open, I try different
reeds, I lip up and the needle just stays around that 25-30 cents flat
area. The reason I am worried is because I am going to play the second
clarinet part for the Overture-Fantasie to Romeo and Juliet by
Tchaikovsky which starts with a woodwind choir. I have to play those
notes a few times and I know they are going to be out of tune. Got any
ideas how I can raise the pitch?
