Hey,
A student of Olivier Messeian named Albert Roustit wrote a
wonderfull (though poorly translated and edited) book called "Prophecy in
Music--Prophetic Parallels in Music's History." This is a great book--the
major theory is that music's history parallels mankinds history, as well
as that of a single person: infancy-childhood-adolescence-young
adulthood-maturity/climax-degeneration/decadence. Read this book!!! The
first sixty pages are hard to get through, but then it gets really
exciting!!!!

This book isn't popular (especially among musicologists) and hard to find,
so if you can't find it, I'll mail you a copy (I have several).
