Subj: [kl] eBay "Bass" Clarinet

The Hammerschmidt wood bell straight "bass" on eBay is almost certainly a=

basset horn, even though it has a curved neck. While it's hard to tell
size from the photo, the instrument is simply not long enough to be a low=
C
bass, and from the look of the lower tenon on the upper joint, the bore i=
s
soprano size. Also, although the photo is blurry, the neck looks much to=
o
small to take a bass mouthpiece. =

The seller knows relatively little about clarinets. He's had some very
strange descriptions for some of his earlier sales. =

eBay is always good for howlers -- old metal clunkers called rare silver
collector's items, a soprano sax listed as a brass clarinet, and that met=
al
one last month with the upper joint upside down (not to mention the flipp=
ed
shots showing left handed instruments).
