my friend (who plays on an R-13) just recently borrowed an E-11 that
someone lent her while her instrument was undergoing repairs. Both she
and i agree that the E-11 (not all of them necessarily, but this one)
was a vastly inferior instrument to her R-13. I do not play on a
buffet, or any professional instrument, for that matter. i am a senior
in high school, and while i am serious about music now, i dont plan to
major in it in college. i bought a new leblanc noblet last summer and it
is good enough for my purposes. personally , i liked my tone a lot
better on my own clarinet than on the E-11 when i played it, but that
may be somewhat biased. i feel that if the musician tries hard enough
and wants to sound good, they can do well on any instrument (within
reason). my friend, on the other hand, plans to make music her career,
and she just made the all-eastern band. therefore, the investment in a
professional instrument was definitely worth it for her. by the way, my
friend mentioned that the E-11 offers more resistance than my leblanc.
