And, in this case, even if this whole thing is legit (and I'm not ready to
rule out the possibility that Michael N. is playing along with a "Scott and
Carol" ;^) type hoax), look at how much publicity Lydmusic has purchased for
what ... a $2 listing fee? Come on now everybody, 'fess up. How many of you
are out there wondering, "Gee, I wonder where can I get the piano reduction
of this remarkable work?"
On the other hand, what are the odds Lydmusic will actually sell these rights
to an absolutely unknown (How many of you have ever heard of it before the
auction?) concerto for $150,000 over eBay? (But if anybody does offer to
buy, they should take the money and run. When you consider how many copies
of the piano reduction at $30 or so and how many performances at $200 or so
it will take to recover $150,000 plus printing and distribution rights, they
would be dumping off an enormous amount of risk. How many copies of the
Bolcom or Corigliano concerti have sold? How many performances have there
been? And these are two highly regarded composers with international
reputations.)
If this is a hoax, it's a good one. If not, whether intentional or not, it
is a tremendous marketing ploy. In either case, my hat's off to the
perpetrators.
Best regards,

My guess is that Michael N. is not involved in a/the hoax. I taught him a
few years ago, and he didn't seem to me like a prankster. BUT, this is my
problem with the whole thing: The ID of the Ebay person was recently
changed - that is why there is an eyeglasses notation next to the ID. That
means that the person's past is very suspicious (they have something that
they "don't wish to disclose". You only change your Name-Id if you had a
serious problem in the past. There is feedback given by past purchasers,
and that person has none. That to me is cause for major suspicion alone.
Also, I don't think any self-respecting composer would offer his
masterpiece on Ebay.
