I watched with interest to see what the pundits would say about this
particular auction. I am not familiar with Mr. McAllister or his concerto-=
-and
I do feel that $150,000 is a bit steep, for me at least ;-)

But I am reminded that Gabriel Faur=E9 died a near pauper because he sold =
all
rights to his splendid works when he handed them over his publisher. Someo=
ne
makes money on these creations and it is often NOT the composer. Having be=
en a
"work for hire" writer for 16 years, I know from whence I speak.

The copyright to a masterwork is of great value, culturally and monetarily=
. We
should not be suprised to see such items auctioned on eBay, which has prov=
ed
to be a catalyst for paradigm shifts in commerce.

I wonder if we would be astute enough (and I am talking about myself here =
as
well as the rest of the klarinetters) to recognize the next "Sicilienne" o=
r
"Pavanne" or "Dolly Suite" if it were offered to us...on eBay or elsewhere=
.
