Hi Lori,
If you're willing to do something in piano reduction, how about a movement
from Krommer, op 35? Happy music for a joyous time of year. You probably
know it but, if not, you can get a listen from Oliver Seely's sight or the
Sneezy mirror. There are also several good recordings. The first movement
stands alone quite well, IMHO -- though, for your setting, you might want to
do some abridging, particularly the long tutti in the beginning (Jack scoots
up a tree in anticipation of Dan's releasing his pair of bassett hounds).
The third movement is also quite festive and shorter. Imagine it a bit
faster than Oliver's tempo, though. Either one would make a great finale and
send people off whistling.
The music is public domain so, if you don't mind do-it-yourself dynamics, you
can download it for free. Otherwise, Musica Rara, $38.50 from Luyben's.
(But don't order it from Dorn like I did a couple years ago. The catalog
said $17, the invoice said $44. ;^( -- but at least it was a 50% off
sale.)
Best regards,
Jack Kissinger

P.S. How's the Hindemith coming?
