My son recently started playing in the Reading Orchestra of the Midwest Young
Artists. (Alas, my son is a violinist!)

The Midwest Young Artists is a musical program that exists in the Chicago
area. It started out as a Youth Orchestra for one of the northern suburbs. Now
this outstanding program has four orchestras, a jazz group, chamber ensembles,
and offers theory classes as well. If you would like more information, you can
check their website: WWW.MYA.ORG.

Anyway, I offered to work with some of the clarinetists, since I was there on
Saturday mornings waiting for my son. My offer was accepted, and last Saturday
I worked with four talented young clarinetists, mostly on the Beethoven 2nd.

Guess what? No A clarinets! The kids were transposing, and doing a credible
job, but it sure would have been easier with A's.

My question is this? Do any of you have an old A clarinet to donate. The MYA
is a 501.C3 nonprofit organization, so a donation would be fully tax
deductible. If the horn is not playable, I will donate my time and materials
to fix it up.

Let me know! This is an excellent program, which attracts kids from a three
state area. The Musical Director, Allen Dennis, is a great guy, and really
gets the most out of these kids. You can tell the kids love the program, you
can feel it in the air when you walk in the door. Let's see if we can help out
some budding clarinetists!
