Let me put in my enthusiastic voice to reissuing the Russianoff books. I put
these at the top of the list for each of my graduating students to have as
they leave school. The way that Russianoff wrote each chapter as a "lesson",
with interesting explanations, clear instructions ("Do this, now do that..."),
valuable exercises, appropriate etudes, excerpts and repertoire, allows a
clarinetist who has already had training to then be their own teacher. They
can be reminded by Russianoff of what they already "know", and perhaps can be
re-taught in ways that may turn on new lights. His repertoire list and open
letter to the reader themselves are worth the price of admission. MG
