A couple of years ago I saw a listing of the large American orchestras and
their conductors, the main performing instruments of the conductors, their
places of birth, etc. I updated it a little and found that in the 21
largest orchestras, about 17 of the conductors were virtuoso pianists, 18
or 19 were born outside of North America, and a large majority were
Jewish.

I don't know how you can do anything about the latter two, but you should
probably should start working on piano as much as possible.

People always say, "But this is all changing." Probably so, but the
evidence is that it is changing very slowly.
