I've used a multitude of mailers & editors in the past 20 years. All
(including the ancient mail, mailx, and Mail) have methods of
calling an editor. In fact, I'm writing this message using Mail
logged into sneezy from a slow connection from Ford Motor Co. I
_could_ use Pine or whatever, but this old, line oriented editor works
just fine for short postings. If I need more sophistication I can
pull up vi (or vim, or emacs, or whatever).

>From home I use MSft (whatever - I forget) Express, which has
the spell checker set up to check my spelling before I send (now,
if I just had a syntax checker attached, too, it would be a good
thing). The editor that comes with it is reasonably good, and if
I have to do something more sophisticated I can attach a text
message from another WP program. Netscape has just about the
same functionality; the only reason I went with Msft is because
of the multiple mail accounts and filters; something that Netscape
didn't have or worked poorly (a year or so back, anyway).

As many people have noted, I tend to be camped on-line :^) Since
I work via the Internet I am pretty much always connected - my
beeper even goes off and tells me if there's trouble on the line.
I pay for a second phone line at home, and make use of the
"unlimited access time" from my ISP. Our phones here in the US
aren't metered for local use, and my ISP only sends me nastygrams
if it notices me on-line for more than 18 hours a day.

There's no reason I can think of for not pruning inappropriate
sections of a posting. There can be problems with context, but
the original is always available in the archives or (for postings
during _my_ daytime) at
http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/Klarinet/Postings.html. The archives
are updated every evening at 23:59 EST, and are unavailable from
00:00 EST to approx. 00:20 EST for re-indexing.

Cheers,
