Funny, but I've never heard of a director insisting his marching band
clarinetists buy matching Vito Dazzlers. Some of these R-13 fanatics sound
like they own large blocks of Boosey and Hawkes stock. Strongly
recommending a professional-grade clarinet is one thing, but different
horns and setups work for different people, and that difference must be
respected just as much as different peoples' financial circumstances. I
guess if you teach in one of those districts where the poorest kid has to
drive a USED Mercedes to school you can make those demands.
