Carl, this is something that has bothered me for some time. I have heard that
even K-12 band directors in some parts of the country will "strongly suggest"
that their students have R13s. Pity the poor parent who cannot afford to buy a
professional clarinet for his or her 6th grader. Should that child be
ridiculed because he is carrying Brand Z when Buffet R13 is the only game in
town?
Please do not think that I have anything against Buffet R13 clarinets. It is
my instrument of choice. In fact, I own three of them and hope to own a fourth
soon. But have we lost all perspective?
