Hi James,

I wish I could answer that question for you, but I'm not sure. I can,
however, tell you how to get some information on the subject. I'm not sure
if the National Band Association Honor Band meets each year. I seem to
remember that it meets only once every two years. If it meets this year,
you would be able to submit an application and audition tape. If your band
director is not a member of NBA, I don't think you can audition, but maybe
you can persuade him to join. Anyway, for more and better information, go
to the NBA Home Page at:
http://www.nationalbandassoc.org/

The Mid-America National Honors Wind Ensemble meets each year, but is just
wrapping up auditions for the coming May performance. That competition
includes college students, so you could audition next year, even though you
will have already graduated. For further information, send an e-mail
request to Iris Derke at:

Routinely, if they don't get the quality of musicianship that they want in a
particular section, they will re-audition for open spots. They've just
finished the first re-audition and clarinets were needed. However, you must
have a ten minute solo prepared to send in, so time may be a factor for you.

Best of Luck,

Carl Schexnayder
Throughout my entire high school career (I'm now a senior), I've somehow
missed all of these national band auditions. I know of the national
orchestra competition every other year, but I am no longer eligable for
that. Can I still make (or at least try out for) any of these national
bands?
