I'm a tuba player and music publisher who subscribes to the Klarinet list
but
skips a lot of it. Thus, I've missed a lot of your discussion of the
out-of-print Russianoff Studies.

I may be willing to consider publishing a reprint edition of these studies,
but
at this point I know nothing about them. In order for me to determine
whether
or not this is a project that my company, Bayside Music Press, may want to
undertake, could you provide me with some pertinent information? In
particular,
I'd need to know:

* What company originally published the studies?
* What is the copyright date on them?
* How many books are there?
* How many pages in each book?
* What size were the originals (that is, the size in inches of each page),
and
was the music engraved in a large or a small font? I ask because if we can
indeed reprint them, the most efficient way would be a through photographic
reproduction of an original copy in mint condition. But if the pages are
huge
and the printed music on them is pretty small, we wouldn't be able to reduce
the
size to a a standard 8½" x 11" page without making the music too tiny to
read.
Thus, we'd have to re-typeset the entire book, which might make it
impractical
to do at a reasonable price.

If you can answer the above questions for me, I can decide whether this is
an
appropriate undertaking for my company, and if so, then I can start the
process
of obtaining the copyright owner's permission to re-print the studies.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Any input, fellow clarinetists? What sort of freak would have a piece of
music in mint condition?? ;o)
