H.R. Reynolds had a serious heart attack around thanksgiving.. He is at
home and the damage to the heart hasn't been accessed yet. He's a
wonderful conductor and caretaker to the U of M bands the Revelli built.

My prayers are with his family.
I had the pleasure of being in the All-Virginia Band in 1978 that H.R.
Reynolds conducted. He was great. We were rehearsing the March of the
Belgian Paratroopers, and Reynolds got annoyed at the soprano Clarinets,
and said "you know that usually the Bass Clarinet players are the ones who
can't play Clarinet very well, but it seems like we have it reversed here."
That year the Principal Clarinet was Luis Baez (now San Francisco Sym.). I
was in 9th grade, and had only played for 2 years, so I was glad to even
make it.
My 1st Clarinet teacher Edward Kanakal (a Russianoff student - also taught
Scott Andrews of the BSO) had the displeasure of getting yelled at by
Revelli at the All-Virginia band back in the 60's. Eddie was talking the
the player next to him (asking for a pencil, or something), and Revelli
while giving instructions to the Brass, stopped, looked at Kanakal, and
said "you, shorty, ... shut-up!!!"
