I have read all of the messages about the dismissal of Mr. Girko from the Dallas
Symphony, and finally must add my opinion in support of Gene Keyes and others
who have asked that this matter be dropped. I offer the following for
consideration:

1) Mr Girko has been principal clarinet of the Dallas Symphony for at least 16
years, and possibly 20+ years.
2) With the death of Eduardo Mata, Andrew Litton was appointed Music Director.
3) Whenever there is a leadership change, there is often a change in
personnel--be it for beeter or worse.
4) Whether or not it happened, the wine incident may have been only the excuse
used to justify Mr. Girko's dismissal and a change in personnel. It is also
possible that his dismissal was a mutual parting-of-the-ways for other PRIVATE
reasons.
5) As other members have stated, theft from any organization (in my case, a
local government agency) is often grounds for immediate dismissal--contract or
not.
6) Any speculation about Mr. Girko's dismissal is nothing more than rumor
and/or speculation, and does nothing more than invade Mr. Girko's private
matters, and smear his name.
7) The only relavent issue for members on this list is that Mr. Girko is no
longer principal clarinet, and that there will be a personnel change.

I have never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Girko, but I have heard nothing but
good things about him as a clarinetist. Let's put a stop to all speculation and
rumors, and drop this issue. As one list member has pointed out, there may be
more to this than the so-called wine incident. As stated previously, a change
in leadership often brings about a change in personnel.
