There's a nice story about Rossini, quoting from memory:

He said he had cried three times in his life.

The first was when his first opera failed; the second, when someone
dropped a truffled duck overboard at a boat party; the third, when he
first heard Paganini play.

I can never make up my mind which of these three is closest to the
Minore of those variations:-)
