The problems begin with cresc. and dim... They don't start at the same place
with each player etc. Articulation markings are ambiguous, you never know
which are from the man himself. I've been comparing the trio version from
Henle to the Bärenreiter 7tet version and the subito dynamics differ.
It's not like I have to play it next week or something but we performed it
about three months ago, and we were upset about the illogicalities (is that
a word?). We never got to the point where we could say: Now I understand.
This kind of brainstorming (that certainly is not a word...) usually happens
when you get into this urtext stuff.
I guess it is just insecurity. I feel that there are traces of "esthetics of
a later era" in the parts, as well as the score.
