Naturally it is difficult to disagree with you here in
general principle, but I suspect that if Girko didn't
have enemies within the orchestra, a more lenient re-
sponse might have been likely. It's not like he em-
bezzled endowment funds. He stole some wine, which he
then returned and paid for, doubtless with an apology.
Worthy of punishment, yes, but termination? Maybe it
will be reduced to suspension and a reprimand on his
record. No love is lost between Steve and I, but on a
purely objective basis, the punishment does not appear
to fit the crime.
