Stephanie:

I had that problem playing in a Dixieland band where we played , standing,
for four hours at a time with brief intermissions. I didn't have a strap
either. I would also be interested in knowing if there is some solution
besides a strap. The only thing I had come up with on my own was to let my
right hand hang loosely by my side, (in between tunes or when someone else
had a solo), and just waggle it back and forth the get the blood circulating
better. This helped for a short while, but after playing four nights a week
for a couple of weeks, the problem went away. I do know that I would have
loved having a strap during those times. To me, the advantages far outweigh
the disadvantages.
