Yes, I did try velcro. The biggest problem was that it made mouthpiece
removal (for changes from Bb to A) very unreliable. The whole thing came
apart in my hand too consistently for comfort. I also couldn't get a
mouthpiece cap over it, although I imagine players who use string must have
a way to deal with that.
