My memory may be faulty, but I thought NASA used pure oxygen in the
capsules. An electric spark started the tragedy. There was never an
explosion as would have occurred if hydrogen was involved (Oxygen is not a
flammable gas but it allows fires to spread incredibly fast and furious).
Correct me if I am wrong.

Question for Tony: in your opinion, who makes the best reproductions of late
18th century clarinets? I need to replace mine.

In response to several posts, some physiologist's thoughts:....

3) Unfortunately, hydrogen WAS used as a diluent for oxygen in the early
parts of the space program. The (almost) inevitable happened, and we lost a
crew of astronauts in the explosion and fire. They don't do this any
more!....
