I was recently informed about an upcoming concerto competition for high
schoolers with the Springfield (MA) Symphony. I, of course, immediately
thought of the Mozart - I have played each movement for auditions before,
and have performed the third. However, my A is not in good enough shape to
perform on. I could, in theory, send it out to have it worked on, but given
the rates of the best mechanics, it would cost me about $300. I have played
Weber 1 for an audition, but it is too hard for me to get to performance
level in the next 2 months. Are there any other concerti for Bb that I
might consider? Or should I have my A worked on (I need to get it done
eventually), and play the Mozart, with which I would feel much more
comfortable?
-James

PS - in the recital for which I had asked for help on the program, I am
playing Brahms' second sonata, the Grand Duo Concertant (Weber) and the
Beethoven piano, cello, clarinet trio (op. 34 or 38 I think).
