The V-12's are quite inconsistent in how the back is cut. Try sanding
them by placing a piece of 600# emery paper on a flat surface, such as
glass, and moving them back and forth "with the grain." I use three >>
Be careful with this technique...if the reed is already a bit soft....you
might be softening it enough to kill it!
I only sand the back of a reed if I believe it is warped.
Remember......any wood you take off...you can never put back on.
